Frazier Makes History with Creek
County Feature Victory
Bates Regains Points
Lead with Victory in Regular Sprint Feature
by John Rittenoure
KELLYVILLE, Okla. (July 17, 2010) - Kacee
Frazier made history at Creek County Speedway on Saturday night.
The 16-year old became the first female to win a sprint car 'A'
feature at the track which came during a make-up feature run at
the start of the show.
Frazier led the opening lap just one week earlier
when a crash brought out a red flag. Some of the track lights
had gone out and light rain briefly fell forcing the race to be
postponed a week. When the race resumed Frazier resumed command
and led all 20 laps to win over a 20-car starting field.
"It feels so awesome, I am so happy I don't know
how to explain it," said Frazier over experiencing her first
career sprint car main event win. "It is the best race I have
had. It is everything I expected it to be like."
Frazier was chased by Zach Beeler most of the
race before Jackie York passed Beeler on lap 16. York closed a
little of Frazier as lapped traffic came into play, but the
16-year old made no mistakes and worked her way through traffic
to secure the win.
"I was not worried about it," said Frazier of
what was happening behind her. "I was more worried about what
was in front of me instead of behind me because you come up on
lapped traffic quick. I was just hoping that everything goes
well and this race gets over fast.
"It was a good race. I had fun."
Frazier showed a lot of experience reading the
track conditions and adapting to the handling of her car that
was going away.
"The track was good I could drive it in really
well," recalled Frazier. "Toward the end of the race my car
started going away. The track started slicking off and it got a
little harder to drive especially since I did not have any
brakes. But I held on."
Just two weeks ago Frazier won her first feature
in a B main at an OCRS event at Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada. Now
with Saturday's victory Frazier is seeing seat time behind the
wheel paying off.
"Things are looking up and I am really excited about it," said
Frazier. "I am looking forward to the rest of the season now
that I am getting better. Now I would like to get an OCRS win.
"After I got my first win it makes you feel more confident
knowing you can run with these guys and do good."
Frazier was hoping to double up with a victory in the second
sprint feature run as part of the regular show. But her luck ran
out. After running in third in the first lap Frazier tangled
with another car she was trying to get under in turn three.
Restarting on the rear Frazier only managed a ninth place
finish.
Defending track champion Brent Bates charged to his third
victory of the season to reclaim the points lead he lost in the
make-up feature. Bates went high in turn four to pass leader
David Stephenson on lap seven and drove away from the field.
Stephenson held on for second.
Leroy Cook, Jr. brought an end to a season of bad luck with his
victory in the modified feature. Cook, who has suffered several
blown engines, got by early leader Mike Duvall on lap nine.
Points leader Ho Dean slipped around Duvall on the final lap for
second.
Stacy Lee led all 20 laps to win the super stock feature. Josh
Jeffries drove into second but could not close on Lee who won
for the second time this season.
Bob Horn had instant success with his victory in factory stock
division. Horn, who was driving in his first race of the season,
started on the rear and quickly worked his way into second.
Leader Robert Scott seemed to be losing power on the final lap
and Horn drove past in turns 3-4 for the victory. Scott coasted
across the finish line in sixth.
Michael Stucks made up for his bad luck from the week before
with his second mini stock win of the season. Stucks challenged
leader Danny Ray after the halfway point and the battled for the
lead. Stucks finally pulled ahead on lap 17 for the win.
Jeff Record led all the way to win his second front wheel drive
feature over Toby Cooper. Diane Waters did the same in the new
front wheel driver class for drivers under 21 years of age. It
was the first career win for Waters who won over Brittany
Vieheller.
All classes will return next Saturday for another
night of points racing. Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts
at 7.
